Rosh Hashanah - The Bnei Brak Salvation Box

L'shana tova - Happy Rosh Hashanah!

This week marks the beginning of the Fall holiday cycle of the Hebrew Calendar. Just as the spring festivals (Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, and Shavuot) symbolize the first coming of Messiah Yeshua, the Fall Holy Days (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot) give us a blueprint of His return.

Rosh Hashanah is considered as the Civil New Year by the Jewish people today. It is also Biblically known as the Feast of Trumpets because it is described in Leviticus 23:23-25 as a day of "blowing of trumpets". In Judaism, this day begins the "ten days of awe" and is commemorated exactly ten days before the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). Many Jewish people take this event very seriously and believe the Creator opens the Book of Life, the Book of Death, and the Book of Judgment during this time. These ten days are a period of somber self reflection and traditionally the Ten Commandments are read; one each day.

This time has a unique meaning for believers in Yeshua as we will be delivered to meet Him when the trumpet blows at His second coming. (Matthew 24:29-31; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

Once again, Salvation For Israel Ministries travels back into the Orthodox city of Bnei Brak with a group of believers to deliver the message of Yeshua (Salvation) to the people there.

As they entered the city, Zev noticed charity boxes placed on every corner for Rosh Hashanah. See Photo.

Interestingly, there was a phrase inscribed on the boxes that read, "Give and you will inherit salvation." Zev and the others realized this would be an incredible tool to share the good news so they began to pray for wisdom and guidance.

As they were interceding for those around them, Zev approached two orthodox men and introduced himself. "Shanah Tova!" ("Happy New Year!"), he said. They introduced themselves as Isaac (left) and Rabbi Steven (right). See Photo.

Zev inquired about the inscription on the boxes and asked them, "Can we buy salvation?" The rabbi was puzzled by the question and replied, "No, but if we do good deeds we will earn salvation." Zev asked them if they could show him where that was written in the Bible. They both attempted to explain that it's not written in the Bible but in rabbinical books.

Zev explained that there are so many passages in the Scriptures that deal with salvation. He turned to Psalm 27 and read, "The Lord is my light and my salvation." With much empathy and compassion he enlightened them with the message that salvation will not come by putting money in a box or as a result of our good works but through the Messiah of Israel.

He then said to Rabbi Steven, "As the shofar is blown this year, let all Israel turn to God's wonderful gift of salvation!" The rabbi abruptly became angry and shouted, "That does not sound Jewish to me!" "Is it not in our Jewish Bible?" Zev calmly answered.

The two men became silent, then turned and walked away. We believe a seed was planted so please pray for them as they come to mind.

Zev and the other faithful believers continued to pray and move in the Spirit to another "salvation box." As people approached, Zev repeatedly asked them why they were putting money in the box. One man named Haim responded by saying, "I do it because I want to be blessed this new year." Zev asked him if he meant the blessing of salvation.

Haim said no and proclaimed his salvation will be granted to him because he is a good Jew and he keeps the Sabbath. Zev said, "But the box says salvation." Then he asked Haim if he thought he might be blinded by his religion. Haim said he never thought about it, he just does what his rabbi tells him to do. "Well, Haim, do you think it is time you start doing what God tells you to do?" Zev asked. "What does God say to do?" Haim replied.

"To read the very Words of God that tell us we are all sinners and reveal to us that He provided a Jewish Messiah to cleanse us of our sin if we repent and believe in Him alone; not a salvation box." Zev kindly said.

Haim asked where the Bible says this, so they open to Isaiah 53 and began to read. After reading, he was amazed and Zev said, "May you find salvation this Rosh Hashanah." Glory to King Yeshua! Pray that the words of the prophet Isaiah would be burned into the heart and mind of Haim and that he would realize that Yeshua is his King and Savior. See Photo.

Speaking to man on street corner

The Lord continues to call us back to this city to reach the religious leaders of Israel. We fully believe that if rabbinical leadership would come to realize Yeshua is the true Messiah of Israel it would have a major impact on the rest of the country. It could be the trigger that activates the salvation of Israel! More photos of the outreach.

With Zev's orthodox background and also being from Bnei Brak, our ministry is fully equipped to fulfill this calling.

The evening of Septemer 28th marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah. As we celebrate and reflect during this wonderful appionted time of the Lord, consider joining with us during the ten days of awe to pray for the salvation of the Jewish people. May they realize that we all stand condemned by the Torah and there is nothing we can do in and of ourselves to achieve salvation.

Apples and honey are traditional foods eaten for Rosh Hashanah to symbolize a sweet new year. May the Jewish people receive the sweetest blessing of all which is the blessing of salvation!

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." (Acts 1:8 NIV)

Some might consider America to be the center of the world but by the Bible's definition it's described as being at "the ends of the earth." Jerusalem is the center and the gospel that started there will also come to a dramatic conclusion where in began.

As the apostle Paul carried the good news from Israel to the world he realized that even though he was an apostle to the Gentiles, the Lord's plan to reach the nations would go through the Jews. As a matter of fact, the entire book of Acts is a blueprint of this plan and in every location the Spirit directed the apostle to go, he went to the Jewish people first. If they rejected him in one location, he would go right back to them in the next. It is quite apparent he considered this process a necessity.

We will continue in this spirit because we know that by following God's plan and order, He will supernaturally open the door for the gospel to be delivered to all people groups.

Recently, we reached out to the Jewish people in Dallas at the Mattisyahu concert. Mattisyahu is a very interesting fellow and not your everyday orthodox Jew. He has become very popular in Amercia, Israel, and around the world. His music is a mixture reggae, hip-hop and beat box that is infused with Chasidic Jewish thought and theology. See photo.

Matisyahu

As the concert was ending and people began streaming out of the doors, we strategically placed a billboard of the Ten Commandments (in Hebrew and English) along the walkway. See photo.

10 Commandments on display

We felt compelled to really get to the heart of the matter and speak to people about sin, which is breaking God's Torah, and the only solution that is provided for atonement of that sin, which is blood sacrifice. (Leviticus 17:11)

Obviously we had some very interesting conversations and just as it was in the day of Rabbi Shaul(the apostle Paul), some wanted to hear and some did not.

Shaul Katzav, an Israeli born evangelists that now lives in America, has started a ministry called Sela Shalom. His vision is to bring the gospel to the Jewish people in North, Central, and South America. Please pray the Lord will bless his work!

He began to speak to a couple of young men coming out of the show. Shaul lovingly explained to them that we have all broken the Commandments and none of us are righteous before the Lord. We are all in desperate need of the perfect blood covering of the Messiah Yeshua. Praise God! Trent (in the blue shirt) was convicted and asked us to pray for him. His friend Chris also joined in as members of our team began to pray that the Lord would reveal Himself to them in a mighty way. Please continue to pray for their salvation.  See photos.

A mother brought her son and one of his friends to the show. As they walked by the billboard, her son asked, "What is that?" See photo.

Neil explaining the Ten Commandments

I explained to him that these were the Ten Commandments that Moses gave the children of Israel along with the rest of the Torah. It appeared he suddenly realized that these words were the same Hebrew words written on the ark at his synagogue. I asked him if he knew the Commandments and he said he knew most of them.

Suddenly his mother asked me what were we doing out here. I told her that the God of Israel loves her and desires to have a relationship with her. She then asked what organization I was with. I said, "We are here to tell you that Yeshua, Jesus, is the promised Messiah of Israel. She immediately became very angry with me and began to tell her son and his friend, "Let's go!"

The interesting thing was that the more she tried to get them to leave, the more interested they became in what I had to say. Pray that as they grow older other believers would water the seed that was planted and eventually they would realize that Yeshua is the King of the Jews and the savior of the world.

We continued to have dialogue with many people that night and touched a number of hearts.

One other note about Mattisyahu is that he comes from a sect of Judaism called Chabad Lubavitch. Many of them believe that a famous Rabbi, Rabbi Schneerson, who died in 1994, is the messiah.

Thomas Ray, from Faith Fellowship, asked a very interesting question. He asked how is it that the Lubavitch can believe that a man that died is the messiah of Israel yet they are still widely accepted in the Jewish community, but Jewish people that believe Yeshua is the Messiah are totally shunned and told they can no longer be Jews? Seems like quite the double standard.

We pray that the Lord would reveal to Mattisyahu and the Lubavitch the True Messiah. If they would realize that Yeshua is the One spoken of all throughout the Torah, we believe they would bring a multitude of Jewish people to the True Redeemer of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Below are more pictures of the outreach. We want to thank all the faithful that boldly joined us in this work.
